AyasThis shop is found in the village of Antagnod, at an altitude of 1.699m. From this delightful village there is a superb view of Mont Rose, it is also the administrative and cultural centre of the commune of Ayas.
The shop is inside a house known as “La Maison de l’Ours” (The house of the Bear) as this was the home of the countryman who killed the last bear living in Valle d’Aosta. It is, in fact, still possible to see a “trophy” of that hunting episode, one of the terrible carnivore’s paws - fixed to a roof rafter. Before being transformed into a shop, this building was a normal house so there are no traditional shop windows, but small, old fashioned doors and windows built in order to stop the cold air entering as much as possible.
In addition, it is still possible to see an ancient oven once used for bread baking and has still to be restored.
