Aosta1st January 1942: the first exhibition and sales point for typical handicraft from Valle d’Aosta was opened. The shop is on the ground floor of Aosta Town Hall, under the arcades of the building’s east wing, with its entrance via Piazza Chanoux.
Since then this has become known to craftsmen and the numerous visitors as “L’Artigianato”. During the fifties and sixties many enthusiasts of local handicraft met here to pay a visit to St. Ours’ Fair exhibitors.
On entering there are the larger and more striking pieces of work such as furniture and large sculptures. The next part of the shop can be divided into two parts which give an overall view of today’s handicraft in Valle d’Aosta. Here visitors can see both traditional objects such as “grolle”, plates, bowls and carved cockerels and items which can be considered new, either in terms of shape or the materials used.
